In Sword Fight, 2-5 players compete to acquire the most gold or eliminate their competition. To do so, players will draft an ally, bank a card from their hands, and then duel each other.
Though each player starts with the same set of cards, this changes every round. First, players will draft a role card to add to their hands. Role cards have unique abilities that might let you steal gold, gain more soldiers, or perform powerful attacks. Second, players will bank a card for the round. Banked cards earn money at the end of the round, based on how powerful the card is. Banked cards can't be used in combat, so players must choose carefully.
Combat is simple. Choose an opponent, and each of you play a card face down. Reveal simultaneously. Each shield on the defender's card blocks a sword on the attacker's card. Unblocked swords kill one soldier each. If you run out of soldiers, you are eliminated. Players may continue combat until they run out of cards, or stop early if they want to keep information hidden.
After everyone has had a combat turn, drafting begins again. Victory is achieved when one player reaches ten gold coins or only one player remains.
