One plays the Rebels, the other plays the Empire.
The Empire's goal is to find the Rebel base and destroy it. If this is accomplished, the Empire wins immediately.
The Rebels' goal is to outlast the Empire.
This ia an epic game that essentially covers the original Star Wars trilogy. The Empire has a massive ship/troop advantage, but the Rebels have the advantage of being able to play objectives, giving the Rebels reputation and getting them closer to victory.
In each round, each player is going to send off their leaders to either move ships and troops on the map, or to accomplish certain missions. When a leader performs a mission, it is placed on the board at a specific planet. As a reaction, the opposing player may place a leader there to oppose the mission to perhaps make the mission fail.
Once all leaders have been used in a given round, all leaders return, and a cleanup phase begins. During this phase, the Empire draws 2 cards (which tell the Empire where the Rebel base is NOT), the Rebels draw a new objective, and perhaps complete one. Every other round is a production round, where each side puts more forces into the production queue. After the first 4 rounds of each game, there is also a recruiting, where each side gets a new leader.
The game ends when the Empire destroys the Rebel base, or the Rebel reputation and the turn-marker meets.
