The Pursuit of Happiness is played over a series of rounds, each one representing a period in the players’ lives. Each round the players gain stress (much more in old age) until they get so much stress that player's life come to an end. The person with most long term happiness at the end of the game wins. Each player chooses a color and takes 6 Hourglass markers, 2 Track indicators and a Long-Term Happiness (LTH) marker of that color. Life Goal cards are drawn for as many as the number of players placed face-up near the board so that all players can see them. Each player gets 1 child Trait card for beginning resource and usable power during the game. Actions are gather resources (Study: Gain 3 Knowledge, Play: Gain 3 Creativity, Interact: Gain 3 Influence), Get a job (temp or permanent), take a project, spend money or resources (buy items or activities), start a relationship, work overtime, or Rest. The rounds continue until all players' lives have come to an end.
